The collection includes letters, 1772-1777, written by John Chilton (1739-1777) of Fauquier County, Va., primarily while serving with the 3rd Virginia Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Continental Army in New Jersey; account book, 1816-1840, kept by Joseph Chilton (1774-1841) in Fauquier County, Va., concerning mercantile, flour milling, and plantation operations; and land and estate records of Thomas Keith (d. 1805) of Fauquier County, Va. Also, includes correspondence, 1842-1862, of Isham Keith (1801- 1863) of "Woodburn," Fauquier County, Va., and as president of the Fauquier White Sulphur Springs Company, a health resort; account book, 1837-1838, concerning flour milling in Fauquier County; accounts; land records; and miscellany. Also, includes correspondence, 1839-1844, of Jones Green (concerning musicians for an orchestra), Thomas Green, Robert Eden Lee, William McNish, and Daniel Ward as presidents of or agents for the Fauquier White Sulphur Springs Company.

Isham Keith (1801-1863) was a resident of Farquier County, Virginia, and a successful farmer and businessman. He was a younger brother of Marshall Keith (177801841), a resident and land owner in Columbia County, Georgia. Mary, one of his daughters, was the wife of William Jones of Columbia County.
